We are an independent UK resource dedicated to helping people choose the right VPN through honest, hands-on testing.

VPN Advisor exists to cut through the noise of the VPN industry. There are hundreds of providers, all claiming to be the fastest and most secure. Our job is to test those claims properly and tell you, in plain British English, which ones actually deliver.

We are a small team of privacy advocates, networking enthusiasts and writers based in the UK. We have been following the VPN space for years, and we built this site to be the kind of resource we wished existed: rigorous, transparent and genuinely independent.

Our editorial promise

We make money through affiliate commissions when readers buy a VPN through our links — this keeps the site free. Crucially, this never influences our ratings. How we test VPNs

Every VPN on this site is bought with our own money and tested hands-on over several weeks. We never rely on a provider's marketing claims. Here is exactly what we assess:

Speed testing

We run repeated speed tests at different times of day across nearby and long-distance servers, measuring download, upload and latency against our baseline connection.

Streaming checks

We test each VPN against BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, Netflix (multiple regions), Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video to see what it reliably unblocks.

Security & privacy

We examine encryption, kill switches, DNS leak protection and logging policies, and we check for any independent third-party audits.

Apps & usability

We install and use the apps on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android, judging how easy they are for everyday people to set up and use.

Value for money

We weigh the price against the features, number of connections and money-back guarantee to judge real value — not just the headline figure.
